01.04.99 - April Foolishness
No it's not an April Fool's Day joke, I have actually written a journal entry. I bet you thought I'd given up on this 'ere journal didn't ya? Well no, I have just been busy in an atomic way and unable to fit anything computery into my routine. It's the Easter break now and I don't have work until Tuesday so I don't feel the rush right now and as I haven't planned to go out (how unusual!) I decided I would give this a little bit of life again. The only problem I have now is that there is a shed load of stuff that I can write about here and I will have trouble picking out interesting bits and summarising it all!
The one thing I have to tell you is about my massage. Hehe. It's just a little something that I have been telling everyone about because I think its really cool and just seems to be an indicator of the kind of employer I work for now. Yes, you did read correctly... my employer arranged it! It is something that was arranged for all the IT Service Desk staff presumably because we get stressed out and because we are sat in front of a computer all day (well almost all day). You know what? As I am writing this I suddenly realise that everyone at work now has internet access from their work terminals so a wave of paranoia just washed over me at the thought of them all reading this!!! *gulp* Anyway the massage was done by a woman called "Nunu" (isn't that the vacuum cleaner's name in Teletubbies?) and it was very good. She said I was in better shape than the rest of the IT Service Desk staff and didn't seem as stressed out. Hehehe.... what crap. Can you imagine my previous employer paying for a massage? Unheard of if they even recognise them with decent pay!
My new job is going well and I have just completed week two. I am still being trained on things and have more training to come and as I pick up more and more information it is getting easier. It is also getting easier to liaise with my work colleagues as I get to know them better and joke around with them. Today we were popping Kinder egg plastic toy casings at one another and at various people who walked in. Yes, just as insane as Pauline and I used to be except this time I have a whole team of people to be silly with! I've been in contact with Pauline and things don't seem to change much back at my old work place but they don't appear to be floundering as much as I had hoped. Aren't I wicked? Well I don't really care anymore, especially as I have just received my first wage packet and everything seems to be going swimmingly.
The flat is looking a little better and perhaps a little more lived in and homely now as I gradually do bits and pieces and my stuff gets spread out and up on the walls and on shelves etc. I have already managed to accumulate a couple of little piles of paperwork which is a real bitch and I need to sort them out because I hate to see that sort of stuff lying around. I'm not an obssessive compulsive person...honest! The gas boiler packed in just as my flatmate jetted off to Vienna for a week so I was a bit pissed off about having to sort that out. I was just about to spin wildly into a state of panic until a brief phone call revealed that a new friend I have made around here is a plumber and he offered to come round and see if he could sort it out for me! Well he did come round once and then again the following night and now I have a working boiler again... wohoo! He said it needs servicing too though and worried me about the possibility of Carbon Monoxide poisoning so I am going to leave Peter a note to sort that out when he comes back. I've done my share of getting things sorted out and so I feel its his turn now to do something.
The parents came to see the new flat and while they were here the dog fell into the pond in the garden! Hahaha. I said about five times to my Dad to be careful that he doesn't fall into the pond as it had gone a bit stagnant and green and was disguised in among the grass but it didn't matter as he still let him fall in. My Mum had a bit of a clean round and swept up some leaves from the back patio for me (well she wouldn't take no for an answer!) and she even offered to do some of my ironing but I refused. Bless her. I am going home for Easter and the whole family is going out to an "all you can eat" chinese restaurant. Mmmmm yum!
My love life is weird right now. I had a date last week on the Tuesday that didn't amount to much but I got absolutely cripplingly drunk on the following Friday and ended up in what is in retrospect a quite embarrassing situation with two fairly new friends of mine. I had a bit of a laugh with one of them on the phone about it and everything seems to be ok but it was really stupid of me. Funny how logic goes out of the window when you are drunk. It wasn't just the drink affecting my judgement either and I felt quite ill that night so I really don't know how I managed to stay up until 6am or whatever time it was before I staggered home to recover. As if that wasn't enough I was due to go swimming with a friend on the Saturday and I had to get the rent sorted out via two different banks while Peter was away. The sun was shining and it was a gorgeous day which made things easier as I strolled along the street trying to find some energy for all of this. I got the rent sorted out and by the time we got to the pool I felt much more refreshed and swam about 30 lengths. It was great as I hadn't been swimming for about two years and its something I really love doing. We relaxed in the sun before and afterwards too because they had an outdoor pool and patio area so it was perfect and then to make things even more easier my friend cooked dinner for us both so I didn't have to worry about that.
Well I think thats enough blurb for now. As I said, I am going home for Easter so don't expect another journal entry until next week at the earliest. Life is still busy you know! If you find this entry then thanks for being persistent in checking this site and coming back ;-)
