15.11.98 - Ready to go

Well this is my last entry until December when I get back from the USA. My flight leaves tomorrow and I'm still not as excited as I expected to be! I've packed very successfully (which translates as "I can lift the suitcase") and done almost everything in preparation save for a few little checks I want to run through in the morning and a credit card bill I want to pay over the phone. I must remember to get the clotted cream out of the fridge (long story... ask me another time).

I spoke to a friend this morning and he tried to work me up for my holiday but I seem to be very relaxed and "matter of fact" about it still. I spoke to Kath a little while ago too and cleared up some formalities and chatted and laughed about a few things. I checked my mobile phone (interesting that many in the US refer to them as "cell phones") for messages and I still didn't get a call from two people I thought would phone but never have... the bastards. I'm still obsessing about that, I just can't help it. Well don't you think it's just extremely rude and irritating to have someone say "I'll call" and then they never do?! I wouldn't mind so much if they just called and told me to get lost but no... nothing. Grrrrr. Anyway.....

I went into London yesterday because I needed to get some last minute presents for people and it all worked out rather well. I got loads of cool presents that were exactly the kind of things I was looking for and there was just one thing I wanted to get that I couldn't manage to find but maybe I will do so in Atlanta. I visited the Tower of London souvenir shop and... hmmm, maybe I won't go into too much detail in case people reading this get ideas about what I have bought. After I had finished shopping I went round to James and Trevor's flat in south London and stayed for dinner. Had a chat with James and cleared up a few misunderstandings which was good and then we all went off to the local pub where I just had time for one drink before I had to leave and catch the train. I had a vodka and lemonade because lager has been disagreeing with me lately and I really didn't feel any alcoholic effect at all even though it was a large one! I must be somewhat immune to vodka (although you wouldn't know it from a couple of weekends ago after I had half a bottle within 50 minutes).

The damn train took half an hour to get there and then it was terminated at Clapham Junction because there had been a fatality on the line. I figured it was further down the line but when I was stood on the opposite platform waiting for an alternative train to Victoria station I saw some firemen looking under the train and getting the metal cutters and a stretcher out! I wonder if it was a suicide, an accident or something more sinister? It makes me shudder to think of dying that way... ugh, awful! I ended up missing my train to Aylesbury from Marylebone but luckily there was a connecting train to Amersham and I eventually got home at some ridiculously early hour such as 1:20am. It was eerie walking through Aylesbury at that hour and everywhere seemed so quiet and dead compared to the never-ending bustle of London I had just left.

Today was interesting. My Mum and I went into the town centre to see the arrival of 'Santa' and his reindeer. They were real live reindeers from the only free range herd in the UK from somewhere in the Cairngorns and they certainly did stink! They looked cute though so I can forgive them the smell. I got some last minute things for my holiday and then we had a burger from McDonalds and got a lift home from my Dad. I've spent the rest of the day packing, listening to music, being online and on the phone and...err.. well I really don't know where the day has gone! It just turned midnight as I typed this. Wow, I should go to bed I suppose.

Thanks for keeping up with my journal entries and I hope you don't mind waiting until I get back before you see anything else uploaded to this site! I promise to take loads of pictures and then bribe someone to get a few scanned so I can bore you with my holiday snaps. Hehehe. Take care all of you and I'll see you when I get back! Byeeeeeeeeeeee.............
